November 14 Drawing BloodOk, being on your own does funny things to the mind. Add a generous helping of sleep deprivation into the mix, stir with plenty of confusion. And season with a little nagging feeling… that you may just be blundering around in the dark a bit. Maybe more than a little feeling. Someone obviously thinks I’m nosing where I shouldn’t. Those photos prove it. I’ve got disappearances that the police won’t take seriously and I can’t walk away from this, I’m responsible – and I mean I’m still scratching at the surface of something here… I just can’t seem to draw blood on this story. Stu – if I said stuff in that last video, if I went off on a bit of a rant, then ignore it. I’m sure you weren’t creeping around after me, I’m not actually saying you took the pictures
But I don’t understand why you’ve stopped communicating. No email from you. You’ve not posted on your blog. I checked. And, I don’t know, it’s yet another question I don’t have the answer to. You know what’s going on here, so:
I don’t want the first time I see what you actually look like to be when you’re the next person I watch being abducted. V x
November 13 Scare Tactics
Spent all of yesterday fighting with my printer, my computer and everything else in my flat that seems to have become plagued with gremlins. By late last night, when I made this video I was not in the best of moods... In just over 24 hours I've been abandoned by a so-called friend, been stalked, and been threatened (perhaps all by the same person?). I needed to get some stuff off my chest:
And whoever wants to frighten me with these photos... it doesn't make me feel scared, just more determined:
The complete set are in my photo album here too. V
November 11 Where were you??What happened Stu? Was there a problem on the train? I’ve called the number you e-d me but you’re not picking up. And it’s up to you, if you changed your mind, that’s fine. Just let me know. It’s only that we had an arrangement and… at the moment, when people don’t show up where they say they will, I start to get worried. V
November 10 Time to Meet?
Stu, you wrote: “I really think we should consider going back to the police – that’s what they’re there for. And if these kidnappers are serious it might be the safest option.” I’ve tried that route already. The whole issue is I can’t get anyone – other than the people here on the blog (ex – and massively childish – BFs excepted) and you, of course, to listen. But thank you, the science info is great – it would be even better in person. I need someone, like you, yes Breakfast Machine and all, to help me make sense of this. If I can’t get any kind of business head on this – NOMI, and now their former CEO, are both getting me nowhere – then we may have more luck attacking this from a science point of view instead…? That’s when you put your hand up. So. How about meeting in one of the cafes near Goodge Street tube. 11am. I’ll text you a name tomorrow. Here’s the info you need:
I know you think I’m a bull terrier – but I promise not to bite. Come on, Stu, we can’t spend our entire time typing to each other… and if this is something to do with science then don’t you owe it to these people to get involved here? V x
Imaginary Friends?Still inside, still wondering what to do next about all this. If there’s any friends out there who can help, don’t lurk, don’t hide away, I don’t need me-time now, I need me-with-lots-of-other-people who can make me feel less confused and – OK, I don’t know, scared – time.Stu? If we could talk through this and make some sense of it I’ll happily buy you all the tomato soup you want. Stu? What do you say? Stu? Say yes.
Imaginary Enemies?I went to the front door last night. Not for the view. I definitely didn’t rent this place for the view. Just like I didn’t rent this place – I know now – to relax or rest in. Not when the heating, the phone, the laptop, the TV, nothing, nothing works for me anymore. It works for itself, does whatever it wants. It’s like someone is trying to get in. I know, I can’t explain really. And, yes, there was no one outside, unless you count the usual drunks doing figure-of-eights or the straggling commuters. So there were people there, but what I really mean is there was no one THERE. For me. No one watching. Yeah, yeah, if people are watching you they don’t sit on a bench reading a newspaper with eyeholes in it, but still…I can’t stop thinking. Unless Gregory Boyle is out there, trying to get another meeting with me. NOMI have wasted no time, I see in removing their former CEO from their website. Before he offered to meet with me: After he offered (and failed) to meet with me: So I’m inside writing this, trying to make connections between these attacks I’m watching over and over when my computer will let me, and thinking of that poor man. It’s been weeks since Verhoven walked through that carpark, weeks since I left a message on his phone. And all the time he was already dead. Or dying. Share It
November 07 Verhoven’s Last Movements
Now I know for sure. This isn’t my imagination on overdrive. Here’s what happened to Verhoven, on a USB, delivered through my door. It’s happened and it’s real. Share It
Step Up, StuSo - after a week of NOMI-style non-returned phone calls, the police are finally telling me I’m just scaremongering, apparently they “often find the internet stirs up unnecessary panic” but have taken note of my comments. I’m actually overwhelmed by their support. OK, Stu - I understand what you’re saying but your argument “We’re out of our league here, let’s be honest Viv. How do we know if what we’re seeing in the other films is real, or at least what we, you, think it is? Something is happening, yes, but I don’t think we should be getting so close to it. I understand science but if there’s a crime here, I’m not the one to ask anymore. We should cool it, for sanity’s sake.” is an argument for just looking the other way while someone gets knifed. Perhaps you would? I don’t mean you would, I mean that just because you’re not sure you like what’s happening is no reason not to wade in and find out more. Come on, Stu, don’t be scared, I need help here (and I don’t mean of the medical kind, although I am going stir crazy in this place) and sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. Yeah, going outside should be a wake up call, give you some clarity – but the kind that makes you focus and get out of your bedroom, not give up and retreat back into your comfort zone. What is it with you and hiding away? Behind pictures of soup? Behind being too busy even to meet though you don’t have a job? Anyway, lecture over. Sorry. Just keep going with me here, Stu. I need a few people in my team right now. V
November 06 Out of ControlHow I’m supposed to actually get on with anything (including ripping shreds off my ex BF), or even live in this place when every single piece of electrical equipment I own (literally everything) is out of control? Ever since I’ve been in this flat it’s been getting more screwed up. It’ll turn itself on and off whenever it wants. Faulty wiring? I don’t know. Are there just loads of power surges around here? Because my computer’s just as bad. I took this on my phone yesterday night to make sure in the morning I wouldn’t think I’d gone mad and imagined it: What’s wrong with this flat? Except now I remember. I have actually had this before. Before I moved here in fact, when I tried to post something here on the net. In which case… what’s wrong with me? Btw, Stu, I saw your message to Mike. Nice that you didn’t – for once – feel the need to weigh up too many arguments on this one but just instantly took my side straight away. Very nice. We’ll make a journalist of you yet! Although we’ll have to actually get you out of your hideaway first. Seriously, thanks J :) V x
Hoax FootageI don’t want to get personal on this blog but I’m GOING TO GET PERSONAL. To one person: Mike – “biscuitboy22” as you’re now lamely calling yourself – you were a complete loser when we dated (if I only I could get those months back! Although, if I did, I’d spend them hunting you down and ramming that oh-so-quirky banjo you played down your throat) but you’ve obviously graduated to First Class Loser with Honours since then. I should have known that the few comments you've left here would be bad news. I’m trying to work seriously here, to work out what’s happening to some very important people. This is my job. And, actually, I don’t care - this is personal. These are real people. In danger. And you – and your friend – think it’s funny to post some fake film? For people who are actually trying to help here, discount this one piece of footage as a stupid hoax. It’s lucky you got your pathetic mate to pretend to be attacked (I suppose you were the one wearing some dark gloves outside the door, right?) but then I would’ve recognised your ugly face anywhere and your stupid game – when wasn’t my work a game to you? – would’ve been up. I’ve got to go to work. And Mike, you can go to
hell.
November 05 Boyle STILL AWOL
I have no idea what’s happened to Boyle. I was angry earlier, now I think of the other people who have stopped answering my phone calls and – maybe I’m tired, this flat is driving me mad – but I feel sick. Did he decide not to meet me? Or did somebody make that decision for him?
Boyle AWOL
In no mood to write – the following will give you an idea why. Let’s just say I didn’t get the interview I wanted. Although the webcam is playing up – weird green static seems to have infected the thing, the stuff’s also on my computer, so who knows if that’s where the problem is. Anyway, try and ignore that, and the fact that it’s not properly edited, because a problem shared…
Share It
Question Time11am. Off to meet Gregory Boyle. Am taking my camera because whatever he’s going to say, I want it on the record. Stu – thanks for the ID of the footage: “My heart nearly jumped up through my throat when I watched the video. The man is Ludvig Peterson.”
and the Brownlee StromTech info.
November 04 9am Horror
I wasn’t prepared to watch someone die this morning. This, at the top of my inbox first thing: Scan of email: I’ve gone on the internet, after going through a number of languages and translations, it seems to be Finnish, roughly along the lines of: Please publish this and stop what is happening, we have been reading this blog and have an idea that we know what you're looking for. We are able to talk and will contact you soon. That’s all the words – but the video attached doesn’t need any explanation. This has to be the work of whoever’s taken the others. Work? I’m trying not to imagine what ‘work’ has been done on this poor guy in the feed. Whoever sent the email was still alive to write it, where they are now, who knows (my replies keep firing straight back to me). But even if the sender of the message is still alive… the guy at the desk obviously isn’t. Stu, even if we can’t find the ID of the scientist in the last piece, here we know this guy is in Finland, by the look of the address, language, etc. I can get to The Harlwood, but Scandinavia is beyond my reach right now… You’ve swallowed the Who’s Who of Science - who is this guy? Any idea what he’s working on research-wise? Would he have known of Cunningham or Verhoven? NOMI’s former CEO is in my sights tomorrow. And I’m putting in another call to the police. In the meantime, help me now, Stu. I’m all for working through every explanation, but – how can even you deny? - what we’re watching here, what we’re listening to, is a murder. V
November 03 View From The TopGregory Boyle. Not a name I knew until about an hour ago. But sometimes you get just a teeny a bit of luck: Luck like my phone, which I’ve still not managed to get fixed, actually working for a 30 minute window. Luck like the CEO of NOMI being on the other end of the line saying he wants to talk to me, knew my name, knew my blog, had found my number. Luck like, after a week of getting a complete wall of silence from the entire staff of apparently the world’s most unhelpful multinational, having the Grand Fromage himself dial your digits. Here’s Boyle on their website. Turns out (well, in fact, he told me) he’s no longer working for them. That’s not public knowledge yet but, hey, another CEO being given a golden handshake? I don’t think I’m exactly going to get a Pulitzer for blowing that one open. But it obviously means having left the company he’s suddenly remembered – unlike all his other staff – how to speak again. And if anyone from the inside of NOMI can help me find these people, Boyle must have some serious info and serious clout to do it. So roll on Tuesday’s meeting.
October 30 Progress Report or What We Know So Far
In between sorting out the technical nightmare that is plaguing my new flat, I’m urgently trying to build a case about these abductions here (yes, I’m calling them abductions, Stu!). So it’s worth summarising – especially as my fastidious correspondent QuantumStu likes a good bit of fact checking – what we know and who we know it about.
ABDUCTION #1: PROFESSOR JURIAN VERHOVENSeen here – I believe – running for his life:
Has been missing since at least 14 October. Although I left a hugely embarrassing answer machine message for him, I am now completely confident that he isn’t hiding from me personally but has in fact gone missing. As much video as I’ve been able to find is here. No one, including his once friendly research assistant Martin, is able to tell me where he is. In my book, controversial and well known people don’t just melt away.
ABDUCTION #2: DR. GARETH CUNNINGHAM Here’s Dr. Cunningham at The Harlwood Institute, on the last day he went to work there: He stepped into that lift and – as far as I can discover – he hasn’t been seen since. He missed two public lectures without any credible explanation. Dr. Cunningham (like Prof V) has an interest in environmental science, new forms of energy and fuel – and a couple of weeks earlier he even spoke to me about it. Having accidentally-on-purpose taken this footage, it’s clear to me that whoever was following Verhoven is now – seen here – following Cunningham. The official channels and The Harlwood aren’t exactly playing ball with me. But in this case – no news about Dr. C, is, I think, bad news.
ABDUCTION #3: UNKNOWN
I’ve dated the full footage here from the day I was emailed it anonymously, not the day I know it happened. Despite efforts (albeit quite flippant efforts, Stu) I’ve still not been able to work out who is attacked here or where it happened. NOMII have to say, that although at least two of the people I have footage of – both Verhoven and Cunningham - have connections to this multinational company <website here> the staff there could not have been more unhelpful if they tried. I am definitely not feeling any love here – and I want to know why. Why don’t they care about what’s going on? Whatever is going on…
ANSWERS PLEASEI might be sticking my neck out here, I don’t care. I didn’t get into journalism for the quiet life. I started this blog a few weeks (although it already seems a lifetime) ago by trying to swot up on my miniscule science knowledge inspired by the turn on of the Large Hadron Collider. The LHC may be off but I am on… to a story that is. And since, as you would no doubt want to remind me Stu, we are all connected (bring on my new quantum mechanics knowledge!), if these people are in trouble, then that’s my business too. Time to show your hand Stu (even if you STILL won’t show your face!) and admit that what we’ve got here is a case to answer. And if anyone’s got answers, let’s hear them. V x
Life with the NOMI switchboard
Press 1 to be sure your polite enquiry, regarding one of NOMI’s former employees Dr. Gareth Cunningham who has gone missing, will be returned as soon as possible. Press 2 to be left on hold by a former colleague of Dr. Cunningham and then after 10 minutes get cut off. Press 3 to learn that the same former colleague will now be in meetings for the rest of the day. Make that the week. As will all their staff. Press 4 to chat to three or four of the P.As you now know quite well in different departments and be transferred around many different offices until you get lost in classical musak for half an hour. Press 5 to end up with the number of someone really important in America, who “may be able to help with enquiries about the takeover of Mercurie Chemicals Centex” who is then conveniently on annual leave for three weeks. Press 6 to try and find out anything about Mercurie and Professor Verhoven – also missing – and NOMI’s takeover of that company, ping pong across international time zones and get really, really mad. Press 7 to change your name each time you call (how cunning!) in an effort to confuse senior members of NOMI staff. Press 8 to chase down other people in other departments (repeat options 3,4,5 as desired) and demand help but, despite quoting NOMI’s website mantra about its ‘family’ spirit, just get completely stonewalled at every stage and end up making potentially unwise threats and allegations. Press 9 to be told my number – and a range of names I have given (not so cunning it seems) have been recorded for NOMI’s future records and any further contact (see option 8) will be treated as harassment. Press 0 to call ahead to the takeaway and shout at them instead, order a blow out meal, convince yourself NOMI are the most unhelpful company you’ve ever dealt with and go out for a vodka and ginger ale. V
October 29 Common GroundIn France – they do seem to get their fair share of these big science projects – at the ITER project they’re working to create artificial stars to blow apart and make an unlimited and self generating energy supply. And as 80% of the world’s electricity still comes from coal and natural gas, this is obviously pretty important.
Why am I back on vast scientific projects (at least you’ll be pleased Stu) when the last one I started getting interested in was immediately shut down? Because this kind of thinking is obviously important to both Dr Cunningham – who I remembered mentioning it in his interview with me - and Jurian Verhoven, who gave a talk along similar lines recently two. At least this area of interest – and neither of them have exactly been shy and retiring about speaking on it – is one thing that connects both these guys. Something other than the only other thing I can find they have in common… … they’ve both vanished into thin air. V
Help please!Up this morning, after a sleepless night (my TV decided to turn itself on at 3am, I’d left the volume on high, great news) to find this in the inbox:
Questions, lots of questions: WHO? Can anyone ID the guy in the film? In both our previous cases (Professor Verhoven and Dr. Cunningham) we knew who they were. Here: I’m not sure? Any ideas out there? Anyone recognise this guy? WHAT? I can’t see what he’s about to speak on in the room, but I’m guessing he’s a scientist. Or have these people targeted someone else? WHO (AGAIN)? The guards? Here we just see the arms, I’m calling them guards, but all I know is they look like the figures in the other two pieces of film I’ve got – but who they are…? No progress there either. WHY? If this guy is also a scientist, is he connected to Verhoven and Cunningham in some way? If he is, why scientists? WHERE? No clue where we are. The room has a corporate feel; perhaps another research facility like The Harlwood? WHEN? It could be, of course, that this is actually older than the other two and that whoever had this footage has only just discovered I’m onto the story. Could be they haven’t had the nerve to post it before now? Clearly some people do get intimidated. That’s to be expected. Whoever sent me this, you didn’t give a name, thank you. You may end up saving someone’s life here – and I’m even more convinced this needs to be pursued, with or without help. Stu – can you now get your head out of the sand (and that’s the polite version of where I’m asking you to remove it from) and help here too? OK, I’ll ask more nicely: *smiles*, you know about all things science, do you have any idea about what I’ve been sent here? And if this blog is a safe
place for other people to speak out then, please, use it. If you know anything at all write. Write
anonymously, it doesn’t matter. Tell me what you know. V
October 28 Sleepless night Part 2Short of time so let’s talk in facts here. I’m often criticised for doing the opposite by an especially quantum-minded reader of mine. Fact 1 Gareth Cunningham failed to appear at the lecture. A few beardies in jackets telling me he’s indisposed isn’t going to cut it. There’s something wrong here. Fact 2 You can’t deny that Stu, because you weren’t there. You don’t get to comment. Or be a counter-balance. Newton’s old 3rd law doesn’t apply here. Fact 3 I’m calling Nomi first thing in the morning. Why? Because (and here comes number 3) Cunningham used to work for them and Verhoven used to work for Mercurie Chemicals Centex and Fact 4 Mercurie Chemicals Centex have been bought by Nomi. Technically I was breaking the law at The Harlwood and I could possibly be accused of harassment of Prof V’s staff so the police are not going to be getting a call from me anytime soon. Which leads me to Fact 5 I feel like I’m on my own here. I suppose that’s fine. Really. I’ve got my flat with broken heating and a computer that only works for three minutes at a time, (three minutes which may well be up any moment now so screw grammar) why doesn’t somebody just come forward and help me out at least with some answers because somebody knows something and I am not just hungry for a headline here… I think two people I’ve spoken in the last two weeks are, yeah, missing – dead? - and here comes the interference again and that means I’m hitting post post post
